Join us for an engaging afternoon with Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning stage and screen actress Sarah Paulson, who will join Steppenwolf Artistic Director Anna D. Shapiro and ensemble member Tracy Letts for a riveting conversation this January 22.
Sarah Paulson is acknowledged as one of today’s most critically-acclaimed actresses of the screen and stage. She was first introduced to Steppenwolf through her work in ensemble member Tracy Letts’ Killer Joe, and the two are currently slated to appear in Stephen Spielberg’s upcoming film The Post. Sarah’s impressive film career includes features with ensemble members Lois Smith (Griffin & Phoenix), Austin Pendleton (The Notorious Bettie Page) and John Malkovich, whom she joins in the upcoming Netflix film Bird Box. On stage, she has appeared in a wide-range of productions including the title role in Lanford Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Talley’s Folly, Cherry Orchardwith Alfred Molina and Annette Bening, and Broadway’s The Glass Menagerie alongside Jessica Lange.
Best known for her work on television, Sarah’s inspired performances have captured the attention of audiences and critics alike. Her portrayal of attorney Marcia Clark in American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson earned her numerous awards including a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and the 2017 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie. Sarah also received four consecutive Emmy nominations for her character portrayal in Ryan Murphy’s award-winning television series American Horror Story. Her upcoming projects include American Crime Story: Katrina, Gary Ross’ Ocean’s 8, the female-driven spinoff of Ocean’s Eleven, M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass, and the Netflix series Ratched, based on the character Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, for which she is set to produce and star in the title role.
Steppenwolf’s annual Women in the Arts Luncheon honors leading artists who are powerfully impacting the theatrical arts. This highly anticipated, intimate event brings together leaders from Chicago’s civic, business and arts communities for a dynamic and creatively charged conversation. Past honorees include Steppenwolf ensemble members Joan Allen, Laurie Metcalf and Martha Plimpton, plus Phylicia Rashad, Claire Danes, Julianna Margulies, Mary-Louise Parker, and a special 5th annual Luncheon with the women of August: Osage County Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale and Julianne Nicholson in conversation with ensemble member Tracy Letts.
Proceeds from the Luncheon support Steppenwolf’s programs that train the next generation of young leaders in the arts. Steppenwolf empowers future artists and audiences by producing two full-scale productions for teen audiences and providing in-class and afterschool workshops through Steppenwolf Education, and offering hands-on, intensive training for actors and young arts administrators.
